Zambia Combinations

Did you know that around 30 % of Zambia is reserved for wildlife ? that's a big area.
The contrast in habitats across the different parks is incredible, ranging from shady woodland to vast open plains. Seasonal sandy streams and wide, clear permanent rivers. This variety encourages an incredible diversity of wildlife and so if you have the time we recommended combining more than one national park area for a complete wildlife experience and to get a feel for this amazing country.
As an example; 10 days on safari spent in a combination of the South Luangwa and the Kafue can (and does) generate sightings of up to 40 mammal species including rare and endemic antelope and all the key predators and + 200 different bird species.
There 20 national park areas in the Zambia, the best known; South Luangwa, Kafue and Lower Zambezi are regarded as some of the very best safari areas on the planet.
There are also a number of less well known places such as Luambe, Liuwa Plain, West Lunga, Sioma Ngwezi, and Nyika Plateau which have substantial wildlife but are still undeveloped yet for the more adventurous they are still worth a visit.
Mosi-oa-Tunya, near Victoria Falls, has a relatively small population of antelope, elephants, giraffe and rhino, but does not have any predators.
Here are links to the 9 main functioning parks.

This safari combines South Luangwa, the premier park in Zambia, and the pristine shores of Lake Malawi.

South Luangwa National Park marks the end of the Great Rift Valley, one of the last unspoilt wilderness areas and possibly the finest wildlife sanctuary in Africa, through which the meandering Luangwa River runs. The oxbow lagoons, woodland and plains of the valley host huge concentrations of game - including elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, giraffe, hippo - and over 450 species of birds.

Pumulani on Nankumba Peninsula is recognised as one of the most beautiful shores of the Lake and borders Lake Malawi National Park. This Park was established in order to protect the cichlid fish unique to the area. In 1984 the park was designated a World Heritage Site.

Western Zambia is largely untraveled even by the most experienced safari enthusiasts and yet flying west from Lusaka there are two of Zambia’s greatest and most wildlife diverse national Park areas.

The Kafue is home to possibly the most diverse collection of wildlife species of any African park recently re emerging as a key safari destination for any Zambia safari. The Liuwa Plains, an equally incredible wildlife habitat and a story of conservation success where Hyena are the apex predator, and home to Africas 2nd largest Wildebeest Migration.
