Namiri & Ngorongoro Safari Tanzania 2017

Welcome to our

Namiri and the Crater Safari to Tanzania. Led by Tony McKeith (Busanga Safaris)

For the past 20 years, the Namiri Plains in the Eastern Serengeti was only accessible to a handful of researchers studying big cats. Today it has opened up for limited tourism and offers East Africa’s best and least crowded game viewing. Inspired by the prospect of visiting the Namiri we have created a safari which will take us to Tarangire and the Ngorongoro on route to reaching Namiri.

We have planned this exciting

Namiri and the Crater Safari to Tanzania

November is the time of the short rains a dramatic and great time to be on safari. Yes, we may get rained on but possibly will not see a drop.
We will begin our safari at Oliver's Camp in the Tarangire. This camp is for safari enthusiasts wanting a more authentic safari experience off the main tourist route. The wildlife is classic east African big game with herds of Buffalo, Elephant and healthy population of predators. Birding in November is especially interesting with the arrival of returning migratory species.
We will explore on game drives and have chance to take a walking safari if you wish. This rugged landscape offers a unique safari backdrop of rolling grasslands, swamps and forests of enigmatic baobab trees.
From Tarangire we will travel via Lake Manyara, climbing the edge of the great Rift Valley to the Ngorongoro conservation area, which encompasses mountains, lakes, forests and wide-open African plains with the world-famous crater at its hart. This journey will give you a great insite in to life in rural Tanzania. We will base ourselves at here at the Serena  Ngorongo which for what it lacks in exclusivity  it mre than makes up for with a view of the crater whic  will leave you speechles.
We will spend a full day on safari in the Iconic Ngorongoro Crater. Starting early we will have chance to experience the incredible views from the crater rim before descending to spend a full day on the Plains, forests and Soda Lakes in search of Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Elephant and Buffalo and so much more, it is estimated to be the most intensive safari game viewing area on earth.
Our safari then moves to the Eastern Serengeti. Namiri Plains camp really fits with the Busanga Safaris ethos. Created for safari enthusiasts it offers very good levels of comfort but the real attraction is the exclusivity in secluded surroundings, excellent guiding and a more intense wildlife experience.

Namiri Plains is where the southern short grass plains meet the acacia woodland and this is our base for the next four nights Namiri is an authentic bush camp pitched in the shade of giant acacias, expect large tents, en-suite bathrooms and flush toilets, bucket showers, snug beds and a well-stocked bar. Camp has 360° views of wildlife crossing the surrounding plains, the river area with its perennial vegetation and reed beds attracts many birds and smaller interesting wildlife species.

The migration passes through Namiri Plains in November unleashes spectacular predator sightings as the resident big cats feast on the migrating herds of wildebeest and zebra. This area of the Serengeti is home to some of the highest concentrations of hyena in Africa and clans of up to 30 are regularly spotted scavenging on kills. Zebra, Thompson’s gazelle and eland also migrate to Namiri Plains.

During the stay here you get to explore the plains with local expert guides, on morning and afternoon
game drives; including at least one full day in the bush. We can enjoy sunrise breakfast picnic on top of Soit Le Motonyi rock and sundowners on top of a kopje. Don't expect to see other visitors, the next nearest camp is around 50 mins drive away.
